Inspired by the beauty found in color relationships, shapes, and patterns in nature as well as the effects of light and atmosphere.
I’m a working painter practicing in an Impressionistic-inspired theory, the Hawthorne/ Hensche Method, which originated nearly a hundred years ago at the Cape School of Art. In addition to my painting, I have over fifteen years of experience in digital storytelling, and am currently at work on a documentary about the Cape School of Art called Truth in Sight. The film will be produced by Denver-based Liquid Luck Productions, Inc., and we are currently looking for grants and funding.
I hold a BFA from the University of Denver, and worked as a graphic designer for a few years before launching my own advertising agency. After a decade, I became the National Creative Director for a large corporation.
In 2020, I published a children’s book, A Dozen Flowers for You!—a whimsical collection of poetry and paintings that invites children to explore the wonder of flowers, color, and art.
My childhood was filled with rich experiences that shaped me as an artist. Because my father was a scientist, he introduced me to new worlds through telescopes, microscopes, and binoculars. Visually discovering new things was magical. My mother was also an artist, so painting and drawing came naturally to me.
When I’m not working, I enjoy home life and adventures with my husband, Lonnie Johnson, and my two Jack Russell Terriers, Izzy and Buddy.
